Rajnandini is the beloved sister of three wealthy brothers who guard her so closely that she has grown up knowing almost nothing of the world. Seeking someone harmless to keep her company, they hire Rama, a simple, naive villager who sings and has been raised by his mother to be wary of women. The two grow close, and their innocent friendship turns into love, which the brothers see as betrayal. Anari is the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Chinna Thambi, produced by D. Ramanaidu, and marked the Hindi debut of Telugu star Venkatesh, who had also played the role in the Telugu version. Karisma Kapoor's performance helped establish her as a leading heroine.
