Murugan lives in Puliyoor, a forest village on the edge of tiger country, and since childhood, when a tiger killed his father, he has been the man the villagers call when a big cat strays out of the jungle. He is a simple, much-loved figure who lives with his wife and runs a timber truck. When he is drawn into the business of a smooth-talking city man, Daddy Girija, he finds himself up against a criminal network that is more dangerous than any animal. Pulimurugan ("Murugan the tiger hunter") became the first Malayalam film to gross more than 100 crore rupees, and Peter Hein's spectacular fight choreography, including Mohanlal's encounters with a computer-generated tiger, won the first National Film Award ever given for best stunt choreography. It remains one of the biggest hits of Mohanlal's career.
