A young woman arrives in a small town and takes an unusual interest in a quiet man who has no idea who she is or why she keeps turning up in his life. As she grows closer to him and his family, the reason gradually emerges in flashback: it has to do with a young man she loved and lost, played in an extended special appearance by Ajith Kumar. Rajakumaran's debut film is a soft, emotional romance in the classic Tamil family-drama style, and it was a success, with Devayani and Parthiban winning praise and S. A. Rajkumar's melodious songs becoming popular. Devayani later married Rajakumaran.
