Vishkanya (1991)

Vishkanya draws on the old Indian legend of the vishkanya, a maiden raised to be poisonous so that her touch can kill. Pooja Bedi plays a young woman whose life is bound up with this curse and with a revenge that others have plotted around her, while Kunal Goswami plays the man who falls for her and Kabir Bedi appears in a key role. The film mixes fantasy, romance and snake-lore with thriller elements in the style of early-1990s Hindi cinema, set to music by Bappi Lahiri. It was Pooja Bedi's debut film, appearing alongside her father Kabir Bedi, and was directed by Jag Mundhra, who later became known for the thrillers he made in India and abroad.
