Muskurahat (1992)

In a hill station, a cash-strapped young man who makes a living showing tourists around stumbles upon a young woman who behaves strangely and seems to have escaped from a mental asylum. Tempted at first by a reward for her return, he ends up protecting her, while the household of an irascible retired judge, played by Amrish Puri, becomes the stage for a chain of comic confusions. Gradually her behaviour and her past turn out to be more complicated than they appeared. Muskurahat is Priyadarshan's Hindi remake of his own Malayalam hit Kilukkam (1991), with Revathi in a lively role and Amrish Puri cast against type in a comic part. It was not a success in Hindi, but it is an early example of the Malayalam-to-Hindi comedy remakes Priyadarshan would later be famous for.
