Mathan has been involved in a deal that went badly wrong and is suddenly holding a large amount of money that does not belong to him. He comes back to Kochi to find Appu, his former girlfriend, now an aspiring actress who has no wish to rekindle their relationship. As he tries to win her back and build a new life, a team of police officers is quietly closing in. Mayaanadhi ("mystic river") is a modern romance with the bones of a crime thriller, written by Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair and directed by Aashiq Abu. It is admired for its natural dialogue, Rex Vijayan's songs and the chemistry between Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi, whose role made her a star in Malayalam cinema.
