Fanney Khan (2018)

Prashant Sharma, known to his Mumbai neighbourhood as Fanney Khan, once dreamed of being a singer and now pins every hope on his teenage daughter Lata, a talented voice who is mocked for her weight. When he loses his factory job and the money for her chance runs out, he and his friend Adhir do something absurd: they kidnap the glamorous pop star Baby Singh and try to bargain for a recording deal. In captivity Baby turns out to be lonely and very different from her image. The film is a remake of the Belgian comedy Everybody's Famous! (2000), and it marked the feature debut of director Atul Manjrekar. Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan share the screen again years after Taal, and the film tackles body shaming alongside its comedy.
