Arjun: The Warrior Prince (2012)

This animated feature follows Arjun, the third Pandava prince, from his childhood under the guidance of Drona to the rivalries that set the cousins of the Kuru family against each other. Through his eyes we see the archery contest, the jealousy of Duryodhana, the scheming of Shakuni and the events that drive the Pandavas from their rightful place, told with the emotion of a coming-of-age story rather than a dry recitation of myth. The animation aims for a more realistic, painterly style than many Indian animated films of its time, and the action scenes are staged on a large scale. It is a good introduction to the Mahabharata for young viewers and families.
