Yajamana (2000)

Vishnuvardhan plays a hard-working villager who has spent his life looking after his younger brothers, putting their education and happiness before his own. When their marriages and ambitions bring new people and new pressures into the household, misunderstandings test the bond he has held together through sheer sacrifice. Prema plays the woman who stands beside him, and Shashikumar one of the brothers. Yajamana is a Kannada remake of the Tamil family drama Vaanathaippola, and became one of the biggest hits of Vishnuvardhan's later career, running for a long time in theatres. Its songs by Rajesh Ramanath were hugely popular across Karnataka, and the film remains a favourite family watch.
