Varun, an Indian-American medical student, comes to Banswada in Telangana when his elder brother marries a local girl. There he meets her younger sister Bhanumathi, a bold, sharp-tongued girl who is fiercely attached to her widowed father, her village and her fields, and who has no intention of ever leaving them. The two spar, bond and fall in love, but misunderstandings and her refusal to move abroad pull them apart. Sekhar Kammula's warm, unhurried romance is best known for Sai Pallavi's Telugu debut: her performance in the Telangana dialect and her dancing made her a household name in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The song "Vachinde" became one of the most watched Telugu songs of its time, and the film was a big hit, filmed largely on location in rural Telangana.
