Rewa and Sia have been best friends since childhood. Rewa longs to start a family with her husband Dhruv, while Sia is a busy, independent photographer in no hurry to settle down. When Rewa learns that a pregnancy could be dangerous for her, Sia offers to be a surrogate mother, and the months that follow strain both friendships and relationships in ways none of them expected. Filhaal ("for now") was the directorial debut of Meghna Gulzar, daughter of the poet-filmmaker Gulzar, who wrote the lyrics. It was one of the first mainstream Hindi films to deal with surrogacy, and it is remembered for the sensitive performances of Tabu and Sushmita Sen and for Palash Sen's screen debut.
