A violent storm in the North Sea drives a huge tidal surge towards the Thames estuary. When the Thames Barrier is overwhelmed, water pours into London, and millions are in danger within hours. Rob Morrison, a marine engineer whose father Leonard designed the barrier, joins forces with his estranged wife Sam, a barrier official, to work out how to stop the next surge before it destroys what is left of the city, while government ministers argue over evacuation. Based on the novel by Richard Doyle, Flood is a British disaster film with a strong cast led by Robert Carlyle and Tom Courtenay, with David Suchet as the deputy prime minister. Its images of a drowned London, from the Underground to Whitehall, are the main draw.
