Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne (1964)

A gifted young sculptor finds his inspiration in a beautiful dancer, and as he shapes her likeness in stone the two fall in love, but class, family pride and misunderstanding stand between them. Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne ("the stones sang a song") is a lavish musical romance by V. Shantaram, built around dance and the art of sculpture. It gave Jeetendra his first leading role, and Shantaram cast his own daughter Rajshree opposite him. Ramlal's music is the film's lasting treasure, especially the title song and Tere Khayalon Mein Hum. For admirers of Shantaram's colourful, dance-filled style, it is a rewarding watch.
