Gloria has just served three years in a Florida prison for her mobster boyfriend Kevin and returns to New York expecting gratitude. Instead she walks into his apartment just as his men are holding seven-year-old Nicky, whose family they have killed over a disk of incriminating records. On impulse Gloria takes the boy and runs, and the unlikely pair are hunted through the city by the gang. Sharon Stone plays the brassy, wisecracking heroine in this remake of John Cassavetes' 1980 film of the same name, which had starred Gena Rowlands. It was one of the last films directed by Sidney Lumet, the veteran of 12 Angry Men, and George C. Scott appears as the gang's boss.
