Goli Soda (2014)

Four orphaned or abandoned teenagers work as porters in Koyambedu, the vast wholesale market of Chennai, with no family and no future beyond the next load. When a kind market woman helps them set up a small eatery of their own, they finally have an identity and a sense of dignity. Then a local strongman's men take it from them and humiliate them, and the boys decide to fight back against people far bigger and more powerful than themselves. Goli Soda was written, directed and shot by cinematographer Vijay Milton and stars young actors who had first appeared in the children's film Pasanga. It became a sleeper hit for its raw energy and underdog spirit, and was followed by Goli Soda 2 in 2018.
