Gopal, Madhav, Lucky and Laxman are four penniless layabouts thrown out of their college hostel in Goa. Needing a roof, they talk their way into the house of an elderly blind couple by claiming that one of them is the grandson the couple have never met, while each of the others invents a new identity to hide in the house too. Their con is threatened at every turn by the couple's niece Ekta, a local gangster who wants the property, and their own idiocy, as Lucky, who cannot speak, tries to communicate through whistles and signs. Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was Rohit Shetty's breakthrough as a comedy director and spawned a hugely successful franchise, followed by Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 and Golmaal Again. Its slapstick, sight gags and the chemistry of its four leads made it a television favourite.
