Goonda is one of the action dramas that built Chiranjeevi's image as the angry, dancing mass hero of 1980s Telugu cinema. He plays a young man scarred by the injustice done to his family, who uses his fists against the corrupt men behind it while romancing Radha's lively heroine. Veteran villains Rao Gopal Rao and Kaikala Satyanarayana are among the cast. It came from the hugely successful pairing of director A. Kodandarami Reddy and Chiranjeevi, who made many hits together, and features songs by Chakravarthy and Chiranjeevi's energetic dancing.
