Grahasthi (1984)

Grahasthi ("household") is a 1984 Hindi family drama with veteran Ashok Kumar at its head and Suresh Oberoi, Sachin and Yogeeta Bali in the cast. It belongs to the domestic dramas of the period that revolve around a joint family, the duty owed to elders and the strains that marriage, money and pride place on brothers and their wives. It should not be confused with the 1963 film of the same name. Its appeal lies in Ashok Kumar's dignified presence and in the familiar comforts of an 1980s family melodrama.
