Gulf (2017)

Gulf follows workers from the Telugu-speaking states who leave their families for jobs in the Arab Gulf countries, often through agents who promise far more than they deliver. Chetan Maddineni plays a young man who makes the journey, and the film follows the debts, harsh working conditions and loneliness that await migrant labourers, alongside the love and responsibilities they leave behind. Director P. Sunil Kumar Reddy, known for socially minded small films, treats the subject as a realistic drama rather than a masala entertainer. Dimple Hayathi, who later appeared in bigger Telugu films, plays the female lead in one of her earliest roles.
