Mahi Arora is one of the biggest heroines in Hindi cinema, but she is insecure, impulsive and caught in a stormy affair with a married superstar, Aryan Khanna. As younger actresses rise and her films start to fail, she tries everything to stay relevant: a relationship with a cricketer, image makeovers managed by a sharp publicist, and finally a turn to serious art cinema. Each move takes her further from the person she was. Madhur Bhandarkar made his name with exposés of closed worlds such as Page 3, Corporate and Fashion, and here he turns the camera on the film industry itself. The role was first announced with Aishwarya Rai, who left the project when she became pregnant; Kareena Kapoor's performance carries the film. The item song Halkat Jawani was widely played on release.
