In 1945 a group of Nazis fled to the far side of the Moon and built a hidden base. Decades later, an American astronaut on a publicity mission stumbles on them, and his smartphone gives the Moon Nazis exactly the computing power they need to launch their long-planned invasion. Renate, a naive young teacher who believes in the Moon regime's propaganda, travels to Earth with the ambitious officer Klaus Adler and finds a planet whose politicians are as cynical as anything at home. Iron Sky is a Finnish-German-Australian co-production that became famous for being partly funded by its online fan community. It premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012, has a score by the Slovenian band Laibach, and mixes slapstick, political satire and big space battles. A sequel, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, followed in 2019.
