Major Kathiravan is an army officer with anger issues who is ordered to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Rathi Devi, played by Samantha. Visiting home, he wants to help his family and sister with money, and turns to a loan agency that promises easy credit. Soon his account is emptied, and he discovers that he is one of countless victims of an organised digital fraud operation led by a mysterious hacker who calls himself White Devil. Irumbu Thirai ("iron curtain") was the debut of P. S. Mithran and was praised for dealing with identity theft, data misuse and online banking fraud before such topics were common in Indian films. Arjun's cool, menacing villain was a highlight, and the film was a hit. It was dubbed in Telugu as Abhimanyudu.
