Jaathi Malli (1993)

Jaathi Malli is a 1993 Tamil drama by K. Balachander about religious and communal divisions and the friendships that cut across them. Khushbu plays a talented singer, with Malayalam actor Mukesh and Vineeth in the main male roles, and the story follows how growing mistrust between communities affects their lives and their art. The title plays on jasmine (jaathi malli) and on "jaathi", the word for caste or community. Maragathamani, as M. M. Keeravani was credited in Tamil, composed the songs. It is one of the director's films that use a personal story to address a social problem directly. This page is for the Tamil film.
