Jai Santoshi Maa (2006)

Jai Santoshi Maa retells the story of the 1975 devotional film of the same name, one of the most surprising hits in Hindi cinema history, for a new generation. A devout young woman worships the goddess Santoshi Maa and keeps her Friday fast faithfully, but her devotion is tested by hardship, family hostility and jealousy, and only her faith sustains her. This 2006 version stars Rakesh Bapat and a young Nushrat Bharucha, in what is generally counted as her first film, long before Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Dream Girl. It is a straightforward devotional drama for families.
