When slum dwellers are evicted from the heart of Chennai and moved to a vast resettlement colony far outside the city, they lose their livelihoods, schools and networks overnight. Jail follows a group of young friends growing up in such a colony, where the easiest work on offer is running errands for drug dealers and local strongmen, and the police treat everyone as a suspect. One of them tries to break free for the sake of the woman he loves, but the system around him seems designed to keep him inside. Director Vasanthabalan, known for Veyil and Angadi Theru, brings his eye for marginal lives to the story, and G. V. Prakash Kumar both stars and composes the music.
