Jayamma is a forthright, quick-tempered woman in a village in coastal Andhra Pradesh who has never missed a chance to give gifts and help at her neighbours' functions. When her husband falls seriously ill and the family needs money, she expects the village to return the favour, and when it does not, she takes her grievance to the panchayat, the village council, setting off a comic and touching chain of quarrels, schemes and soul-searching. The film gave a rare lead role in cinema to Suma Kanakala, one of the most popular hosts on Telugu television, who carries it with ease. Its music is by Oscar-winning composer M. M. Keeravani, and its unhurried look at village customs and relationships sets it apart from mainstream Telugu releases.
