Jhansi Ki Rani (2012)

Jhansi Ki Rani is a Hindi historical film about Rani Lakshmibai, the queen of Jhansi who became one of the best-known figures of the 1857 uprising against the East India Company. It follows her from her marriage into the royal house of Jhansi to the British refusal to recognise her adopted son as heir, and her decision to defend her kingdom and fight on horseback at the head of her troops. Milind Gunaji and Mohan Joshi appear among the cast. It is a modest retelling of a story long familiar from Subhadra Kumari Chauhan's poem "Khoob ladi mardani".
