Description

Vijay Borade, a sports teacher close to retirement, notices the youngsters from the slum next to his college kicking a plastic bucket around in the rain and has an idea: if they had a real football, they might stay out of trouble. The boys, led by the restless Don, are drawn in, and slowly a team takes shape, while Borade faces resistance from people who would rather the slum stayed on the other side of the wall. Jhund is inspired by Vijay Barse, the Nagpur coach who founded the Slum Soccer movement, and it was the first Hindi film by Nagraj Manjule, the director of Sairat, who cast mostly non-professional young actors from real slum communities. Amitabh Bachchan anchors the film with a restrained performance, and Ajay–Atul wrote the music.
