Description

In the 16th century the young Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar seeks an alliance with the Rajputs of Amer, and the price of peace is a marriage to Jodhaa, the proud and devout daughter of Raja Bharmal. Jodhaa agrees on her own terms: she will keep her faith and her temple inside the Mughal palace. What begins as a political arrangement slowly becomes a love story, as Akbar learns to earn her respect and she learns to see the man behind the emperor, while enemies at court and on the battlefield conspire against them. Ashutosh Gowariker staged the film on a lavish scale, with huge sets, war elephants and long battle sequences. A. R. Rahman's score includes the Sufi qawwali "Khwaja mere khwaja" and the grand "Azeem-o-shaan shahenshah". The film won many awards, though some historians and Rajput groups disputed its account of Jodhaa.
