Aftab is a hardened smuggler working the desert along the India-Pakistan border; Dhananjay is the polished son his father had with another woman. Each blames the other's mother for wrecking his childhood. When both are framed in a plot involving terrorists and corrupt officials, they end up fleeing across the desert together, chained to a shared fate, with police and gangsters on their trail. Kachche Dhaage ("fragile threads") was the first film of director Milan Luthria and was shot largely in Rajasthan. Its soundtrack is among the last works of the Pakistani qawwali legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who died in 1997, and songs such as Khali Dil Nahin and Iss Shaan-E-Karam Ka remain much loved.
