Kadikara Manithargal (2018)

Kadikara Manithargal ("clockwork people") is a 2018 Tamil social drama about the ordinary families who rent homes in Chennai and live under the conditions their landlords set. Kishore plays a working man who, with his wife and children, must obey a long list of rules, from fixed hours to who may visit, while the household's needs keep growing. Director Vaigarai Balan builds the film from small everyday humiliations and the fear of being turned out, and it draws its strength from its realism and Kishore's understated performance. Its Hindi title, Ghosla ("nest"), points to its theme of a family looking for a home of its own.
