Kalank (2019)

In 1945, Roop agrees to marry Dev Chaudhry, a newspaper owner whose dying first wife, Satya, has chosen her as his next bride. Trapped in a cold marriage in the town of Husnabad, near Lahore, Roop goes to learn music from Bahaar Begum, a famous courtesan whose house lies in the old city. There she meets Zafar, a charming, reckless blacksmith with a secret link to the Chaudhry family, and falls deeply in love, just as communal tension and the coming Partition threaten to tear the town apart. Kalank was a dream project of the late producer Yash Johar, revived by his son Karan, and it reunited Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt on screen after more than two decades. It is known for its opulent sets, Pritam's music and the dance number "Tabaah Ho Gaye".
