Raghava is so scared of the dark that he sleeps next to his mother, and his family treat his fears as a joke until strange things begin happening in the house. A playground haunted by restless spirits sends a ghost home with him, and soon Raghava is possessed by Kalpana, a transgender woman who was cheated and killed, and who is using his body to settle accounts with the men responsible. Kalpana is the Kannada remake of Raghava Lawrence's Tamil hit Kanchana (2011), with Upendra in the lead and veteran Saikumar in the striking title role. It mixes slapstick horror with a sympathetic plea for the dignity of transgender people.
