A young scientist has developed a cheap way of turning sea water into drinking water and he dreams of building a plant to bring it to ordinary people. Short of capital, he accepts help from a suave financier, without realising that the man runs a brutal money-lending racket and has his eyes on both the project and the scientist's girlfriend. What begins as a partnership turns into a deadly cat-and-mouse game. Kana Kandaen, 'I had a dream', was the directorial debut of K. V. Anand, the acclaimed cinematographer who later made Ayan and Ko. Prithviraj, then a rising Malayalam star, won attention in Tamil with his cool, menacing villain, and Vidyasagar's songs were popular. The film was praised for its fresh setting and taut screenplay.
