Kanaa (2018)

Kousalya grows up watching her father Murugesan, a farmer, weep over India's cricket losses, and decides she will make him smile by playing for the country herself. Playing with the village boys, facing the scorn of neighbours and the worries of her mother, she trains her way up through the ranks, while at home the family farm sinks under debt and drought. Kanaa ("dream") is both a sports film and a film about the farming crisis. It was the debut of director Arunraja Kamaraj and the first production of actor Sivakarthikeyan, who also appears as a coach. Aishwarya Rajesh's performance was widely praised, and the film was remade in Telugu as Kousalya Krishnamurthy.
