Kanche (2015)

In 1944 Haribabu, a young man from a village in Andhra, is serving in the British Indian Army on the Italian front against the Germans. Between missions behind enemy lines, his memories return to home: his friendship and love for Sita Devi, the daughter of a powerful upper-caste family, and the hatred of her brother Eeswar, who later becomes his comrade and rival in the same war. The film crosscuts between the battlefields of Europe and the caste conflicts of the village, drawing a parallel between the two kinds of war. Krish's ambitious, rare Telugu war film was shot partly in Georgia and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. It was Varun Tej's second film.
