Kannathal (2002)

Kannathal is a 2002 Tamil devotional film directed by Bharathi Kannan, named after a form of the mother goddess worshipped in parts of Tamil Nadu. In the tradition of Amman films, it centres on the goddess's protection of her devotees and her intervention against those who do evil. Karan and Neena play the lead roles, and comedian Vadivelu provides the comic relief. Devotional films of this kind were a popular strand of Tamil cinema around the turn of the century, with miracles, festival songs and village settings.
