Jagat Pratap Singh is a district collector of unbending honesty who believes that the law must be followed whatever the cost. His son Ravi has grown up with the same hatred of injustice but none of the patience, and when he sees criminals and corrupt men escape punishment, he deals with them himself. Father and son end up on opposite sides, each convinced he is right, while the real villains take advantage of the rift. Telugu director B. Gopal remade his own Telugu film Collector Gari Abbai for this Hindi version, which brought together the legendary Dilip Kumar and Nutan with the younger Sanjay Dutt and a rising Madhuri Dixit. It is a classic late-1980s mix of family drama and action.
