Amudhavendhan returns to his hometown of Cuddalore from abroad, ready to marry Meenu, the girl he loves, and with an old score left unsettled with Thamba, a feared local strongman. Within hours Thamba is found murdered, and Amudhan, the obvious suspect, finds the police and Thamba's gang both hunting him. Over a single long night he has to work out who really did it while staying one step ahead of everyone. Kathakali was a change of direction for Pandiraj, better known for warm village and family films such as Pasanga, here trying his hand at a tight, chase-driven thriller. Vishal, who produced the film, plays it straighter than in his mass entertainers, and Hiphop Tamizha's score keeps up the pace.
