Kempe Gowda is a police inspector in his home town who rarely needs to file a case: people trust him, and troublemakers fear him. When he crosses Aarumugam, a gangster with powerful friends in Bengaluru, he finds himself transferred to the city, where the rules are set by the don and the police dance to his tune. Humiliated but unbowed, Gowda decides to fight back on his own terms. The film is Sudeep's Kannada remake of Hari's Tamil hit Singam, which he directed as well as headlined. It was a major commercial success, and Ravishankar, previously known mainly as a dubbing artist, became one of Kannada cinema's most in-demand villains after his loud, memorable turn as Aarumugam.
