A family from north India receives word that one of the brothers is critically ill in a Mumbai hospital. His siblings and their families descend on the city, and while they keep vigil, the wait stretches on, bringing out squabbles over money and property, half-buried resentments, petty ambitions and unexpected moments of tenderness. Harsh Chhaya, the actor, makes his directing debut with a dark family comedy that finds humour in the awkward business of waiting for death. The title comes from the Hindi proverb about falling from the sky and getting stuck on a date palm, that is, escaping one trouble only to land in another. The ensemble of seasoned actors, led by Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa and Vinay Pathak, is the main draw.
