Raju drives a taxi in Hyderabad and talks his way out of most trouble. A long-distance job takes him to Rajasthan, where a chance meeting with the scatterbrained Subhashini leads to chaos, and to a desperate man from a remote village whose people are dying one by one of a mysterious illness. The villagers believe a god will send them a protector, and to Raju's irritation they decide he is the one. Bit by bit he discovers a ruthless mining operation behind their suffering, and finds out whether he is willing to become what they believe he is. Khaleja disappointed at the box office on release but has since become a cult favourite, loved for Mahesh Babu's deadpan humour, Trivikram's dialogue and its unusual mix of comedy and faith. Much of it was shot in Rajasthan.
