In 1930, in Chittagong in British-ruled Bengal, a group of schoolboys find their football ground taken over by the army. Their anger brings them to Surjya Sen, a quiet schoolteacher known to his students as Masterda, who is secretly planning a revolution. Together with a small band of older revolutionaries and young women such as Kalpana Dutta and Pritilata Waddedar, he trains the boys for a coordinated attack on the British armouries and telegraph lines of the city. Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey retells the real Chittagong armoury raid and its aftermath, based on Manini Chatterjee's history book Do and Die. Ashutosh Gowariker shot it with careful period detail, and Abhishek Bachchan plays Surjya Sen with restraint. Though it was not a commercial success, it is valued as a sincere account of a lesser-known chapter of the freedom struggle.
