Ramu is the village idler, spending his days roaming with his friends, getting into scrapes and driving his family to despair. He falls for a girl from the next village, and their romance is complicated by the long-running rivalry between the two villages and by his own reputation as a troublemaker. Kirataka is the Kannada remake of the Tamil film Kalavani (2010), which also starred Oviya, who reprises her role here. It came early in Yash's career and was one of the hits that established him as a popular leading man before the KGF films made him a pan-Indian star. The film is full of rustic humour and lively village scenes.
