Leila, a rising model, is found murdered in her Chennai apartment, and the case lands with Sandhya, a young police officer handling her first big investigation. She turns to Vinayak, a brilliant but withdrawn former detective who has stepped away from police work after a personal loss. As they question the people around Leila, the film plays out each person's version of events, and the picture of her final hours keeps changing. Kolai ("murder") is a stylish, slow-burning whodunit, the second film by Balaji K. Kumar after Vidiyum Munn, with a strikingly designed, coloured look. It released in July 2023 and was released in Telugu as Hatya.
