Kolamaavu Kokila (2018)

Kokila is the quiet, dutiful daughter of a struggling Chennai family. When her mother is diagnosed with lung cancer and the treatment costs far more than they can find, an accidental encounter shows her how much money there is in smuggling drugs. Wide-eyed and polite, she becomes a courier, and before long she is outwitting dangerous gangsters who badly underestimate her, with her whole oddball family, and a love-struck grocer played by Yogi Babu, dragged along. Kolamaavu Kokila was the debut of Nelson Dilipkumar, whose deadpan dark humour went on to define Doctor and Jailer, and it showed Nayanthara in a deliberately understated star turn. Anirudh's songs, especially the comic 'Kalyana Vayasu', were huge hits. It was remade in Hindi as Good Luck Jerry (2022) with Janhvi Kapoor.
