Komban is a short-tempered young man in a village near Ramanathapuram, feared for his fists and his refusal to back down. He marries Pazhani, and her father Muthaiah, a quiet and dignified man, comes to live with them. Komban's pride and his mistrust of his father-in-law sour the household, while a rival gang with long-held grudges waits for a chance to strike at his family. The film blends a rough-edged rural action drama with a tender story about a son-in-law and father-in-law learning to respect each other, and Rajkiran's warm performance as Muthaiah is often singled out. Karthi reunited with the Studio Green banner and the Paruthiveeran territory of southern Tamil village life. The film faced protests and a court petition before release over its portrayal of communities in the region, but opened in April 2015 and became a commercial success.
