Raja is a graduate who comes back to his home village to find it under the thumb of a cruel landlord whose men grab land, crush dissent and keep the villagers poor and frightened. With courage, wit and his fists, Raja rallies the people against the oppressor, while two women, played by Vijayashanti and Radha, compete for his heart. Kondaveeti Raja is a typical 1980s Chiranjeevi mass entertainer from his most successful phase, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, the master of colourful Telugu commercial cinema, with songs by K. Chakravarthy. It was a major box-office hit and helped confirm Chiranjeevi as the biggest star of Telugu cinema.
