The son of a respected Hindu village elder, and Angel, the daughter of an equally proud Christian family, have known each other all their lives, and their friendship becomes love. When the families find out, religion and honour become weapons, and the elders, played by Rajkiran and Nassar, refuse to bend, putting the young couple and the peace of the village at risk. Director Hari, known for his fast-paced rural dramas, mixes romance, family emotion and action, with comic relief from Vadivelu. Harris Jayaraj's songs were popular, and the film was a commercial success for Silambarasan early in his career as a lead actor. The Telugu version is Rudrudu.
