Kurukshetra (2008)

Kurukshetra is a 2008 Malayalam war film written and directed by Major Ravi, a former army officer who turned to filmmaking. It is the second of his films with Mohanlal as the soldier Mahadevan, after Keerthi Chakra (2006), and it is set during the 1999 Kargil conflict, when Indian troops fought to retake peaks occupied by intruders. The film follows Mahadevan and the men under his command, their families back home and the brutal climb towards enemy positions in the high mountains. Biju Menon is in the supporting cast. Major Ravi's own army background shows in the attention to military life, procedure and the bond between soldiers, and the high-altitude battle scenes give the film a sense of scale unusual for Malayalam cinema of the time.
